Lectures:
A. General physiopathology /15 hours/ - General information. The subject of
physiopathology and its relation to other subjects. Notions of illness and health
- Part I. Pathophysiology of homeostasis.
- Part II. Pathophysiology of protective mechanisms.
- Part III. Pathophysiology of intermediary metabolism of major organic compounds
B. Specific pathophysiology - disturbances of organic-functions /30 hours/ - Disturbances of O2
transport. Anemia. - Alterations of white blood cells and thrombocytes. - Heart insufficiency and shock. - Disturbances of internal and external breathing. - Disturbances in prehension of food, chewing and swallowing. - Rumen dysfunctions - Abomasal dysfunctions. Disturbances of the monogastric functions. - Disturbances in intestinal motility and digestion. - Disturbances of liver functions. - Disturbances of renal functions. Forms of renal insufficiency. - Disturbances of lower excretory functions. - Osteopathies. - Pathophysiology of neural functions - Disturbances of the neuro-muscular synapsis - Disturbances of muscular function - Disturbances of endocrine organs
Practical lessons:
- Studies on some factors of homeostasis. Changes of Ca2+, Mg2+ and their effect. Acid-base balance investigations.
- Disturbances of hemostasis /bleeding time, coagulation time, PTT, thrombocyte count/.
- Studies of inflammation processes /white blood cell count, qualitative blood smear, glutaraldehide-test, blood sedimentation/
- Investigations of intermediary processes /nitrogen and protein metabolism: blood and milk urea, serum proteins; carbohydrate metabolism: blood glucose, ketone bodies; lipid metabolism: total lipid, cholesterol, free fatty acids, triglycerol/
- Studies on anaemias /hemoglobin, red blood cell count, MCV, MCH, MCHC/
- ECG studies
- Studies on hypoxia
- Studies on shock syndromes

B. Veterinary clinical diagnostics
Lectures and practicals:
Goals and methods of clinical examination, diagnosis - Signalment, description of clinical findings, anamnesis, status praesens, general examination herd diagnostics - Examination of the skin, lymph nodes and mucosal membranes - Examination of the respiratory system, respiratory endoscopy - Examination of the cardiovascular system - Electrocardiography, phonocardiography - Ultrasonographic principles, echocardiography - Examination of the digestive system - Examination of the urinary system - Abdominal ultrasonography - Examination of the locomotor system - Examination of the nervous system, electroencephalography - Description of clinical findings - Writing clinical reports, consultation
Practical lessons are held on small animals at this clinic, whilst those of
large animals are provided at the Clinic for Large Animals.

Practical work:
Practical lessons are held on small animals at this clinic, whilst
those of large animals are provided at the Clinic for Large Animals.
Therapeutical-diagnostical practicals: Application of medicines - Ruminal, omasal and abomasal puncture - Punction of the thorax and abdomen - Klysma, caecal and colon puncture in the horse - Taking urine samples - Immunodiagnostic methods
Clinical demonstrations in student groups:
- Large and small animal clinic: Clinical examination and differential diagnosis of various patients.
- Clinical diagnostic unit: Practical electrocardiography - Abdominal ultrasonography - Echocardiography.
- Clinicopathological laboratory: Examination of the blood, urine and other biological samples, clinical interpretation.

III. List and description of the extramural practicals
Internal medicine:
One week hospital service, 2 days duty service, 2 days at the outfield station, 4 weeks extramural practice in the field (after the 8th semester) and 2 weeks at extramural clinics after the 10th semester.
Admission of students
In order to admit the students for studying subjects taught by the department, the necessary exams of the preceding subjects are needed.
