Events at the Veterinary School

At the Faculty of Veterinary Science there are plenty of events on a regular basis, other ones are more occasional. Here you might get a short inside into student's extra-curricular life ... Enjoy!

Winter at the Faculty ...

Diploma issuing ceremony 2002

Having completed the curricular program some 40 international students graduated 2002 from the English-language Program of the Veterinary Faculty in Budapest, Hungary. The diploma is handed over during a ceremony in the Aula. In front of the professors dressed in academic gowns, the students are called forward to the Dean for a handshake symbolizing their acceptance by the community of veterinarians.
Here you may have a look not at the official part only ...

Greek evenig in the student's club

In November a Greek party was held in the Equus club – the club that usually students of our university have a party once a week. This party was organized by our Greek students and we had the chance to have a Greek D.J. here in Budapest. All the students that were present that night – not only from our but from several universities – had a great time dancing, drinking ... They even had the chance to test Greek drinks like Ouzo, Retsina and Mavrodaphni. Everybody enjoyed that night. So we think that in future more cultural nights should be organized by students of different nationalities.

They had a dance,

... some fights ...

but for sure a lot of fun!

Bloodshed at the Veterinary school ...

The exam period didn’t even start and litres of blood was shed already  – on a voluntary basis. Although blood transfusion is not as common in veterinary practise as in human medicine, even veterinary students and staff members can easily realize that blood donors, and of any nationality, are welcome anytime. The Veterinary Faculty organises an opportunity for blood donors to give blood twice a year, when colleagues from the transfusion centre come to our school. Everyone is invited to spend some 20 minutes with them and offer immense help to plenty of  hospitals and patients. Anyone among us might need this kind of help even the very next day ... Thanks to all blood-donors joining us!

Animal’s World Day at the veterinary campus in Budapest -
a meeting point for pet-lovers

The Animal's World Day was celebrated for the second timein Hungary with an open day for pet lovers at the Faculty of Veterinary Scince among other activities countrywide. Based on the experience in neighbouring Austria, several family programs were organised in Budapest too – from horse-back riding and face-painting for children to lectures on responsible pet keeping and ways of adopting animals. Crowds visited the veterinary campus in the very heart of Budapest on a Saturday in spite of pouring rain. Information about certain pet diseases and diets were provided the entire day for the nearly 5.000 visitors. Beside exhibitions, talk shows on animal welfare with prominent representatives of Hungarian cultural life, Q&A-sessions on rescue dogs were on stage. Some clinics and buildings of the Veterinary Campus were opened for the public.

The castle trip 2002

How much fun can you have in a castle in the middle of nowhere with only 28 people present? This was the big question on everyone's mind. Well as you would know if you were there - a lot! From start to finish everyone was determined to have a good time. The games started immediately after stepping off the bus and continued well into the evening. The difficulty was the forefits! Of course with every game came shots of palinka. Even for those of us not out the night before this soon took its toll and sure enough the games became more difficult. The funniest games were played in the woods, some of which required use of the brain (which was a waste of time by this point) and again involved the quantitative drinking of palinka! The evening was spent playing more games - surprisingly! And then culminating in a disco with very bad dancing!!!! So if you want fun involving getting to know people ready for a laugh, football whilst being attached to someone else, drinking games -so many drinking games, absailing down the castle walls, bad dancing, a lot of laughs, very little sleep and an optional walk in the woods then it's too late as it is all over.
But there is always next year!
